Get to know Laguna Guerrero

A must-visit attraction in Chetumal is exploring Laguna Guerrero, which connects to Chetumal Bay. This approximately eight-kilometer stretch is surrounded by mangroves, offering a unique opportunity to observe local wildlife such as birds, endemic fish, manatees, herons, and spoonbills, among others. The Laguna boasts the Mirador Dos Hermanos, a tower over 20 meters tall, perfect for capturing panoramic photographs of the bay and its surroundings. It's also an ideal spot to relax and enjoy a picnic.

To learn more about manatees, we recommend visiting the Center for the Care and Rehabilitation of Aquatic Mammals in the State Protected Natural Area "Manatee Sanctuary-Chetumal Bay." Here, in a corral over 20 meters long, you'll find Daniel the Manatee, rescued as a calf on the shores of Chetumal Bay. In this new home, Daniel and other manatees coexist while waiting for the species' reproduction.

The center provides detailed information on manatee biology and conservation measures to protect these endangered species. You can also see manatees from Belize and the Río Hondo area. While the facility is primarily dedicated to the study and conservation of aquatic mammals, it's open to the public to provide guidance and awareness of the importance of caring for these species.

It's a fun and educational visit where you'll have the opportunity to learn more about these wonderful animals.
