Get to know Tequesquitengo

Only 45 kilometers ( 28 miles ) south of Cuernavaca is the “sea” of Morelos: Tequesquitengo. This small town and its lake have become a favorite weekend destination where days flow between a wide range of activities, both on water, on land and in the air; there is something for every taste and budget.

Its extraordinary climate, with sun and heat almost all year round, has allowed beach clubs, hotels and vacation rentals to be built around Lake Tequesquitengo. In addition, they are the ideal places to hire a boat ride, practice water skiing, dive through the ancient ruins of the town and even jump from a parachute or bungee.

For those who are looking for more adrenaline, 20 minutes from Tequesquitengo they draw the waters of the Amacuzac River. Its rapids are perfect for rafting.

“Teques”, as it is colloquially called, has the right atmosphere and tranquility to meditate or relax in some of its spas and hot springs. For example, Temazcal Tonantzin promises a day of herbal baths and aromatherapy, while the hotels Villa Bejar and Hacienda Vista Hermosa offer a day pass for couples with hot stone massage and facial treatment included.

When night falls, party lovers usually board the disco boat that sails the lake until five in the morning. Those who go on a more relaxed plan, find candlelight dinners at any of the restaurants in the beach clubs.

Tequesquitengo is also the gateway to Jardines de Mexico, a kind of contemplative park that exhibits endemic flowers from all over the world, distributed in seven thematic gardens. Another tourist attraction is the archeological site of Xochicalco, with its astronomical observatory of Teotihuacan and Mayan influence.
