Get to know Tulancingo

Tulancingo de Bravo, Hidalgo, is a destination for a weekend escape of the city’s daily hustle and bustle—it’s only 119 kilometers from Mexico City. Going all over will guarantee you a unique cultural and gastronomic experience.

 

Due to its location in the Neovolcanic Axis, this town is surrounded by great plains, ravines, gullies, hills and volcanoes, where sky meets earth in an infinite horizon that allows us to see beautiful landscapes and admire nature in a temperate climate.

 

Connect to the past by walking through its streets and know this settlement's origin, first inhabited by Toltecas and later by Chichimecas. Stop at 19th-century Tulancingo Cathedral and admire its impressive architecture with its two huge 17-meter-high Ionic-Roman-style columns.

 

Valuable aspects in Tulancingo center are La Floresta Garden, ideal place for spending an afternoon of natural coexistence, as well as the Plaza de la Constitución and the Plaza Juárez, both huge trees surrounded and where you can spend hours of relaxing while watching inhabitants walk.

 

Another place is La Casa de los Emperadores (The House of the Emperors), which housed Agustín de Iturbide in 1823 and was later inhabited by the Emperor Maximilian of Habsburg in 1865.

 

But Tulancingo is also called “Town with Flavor” for its great gastronomic wealth. Delight your palate by tasting a typical of the region “torta” known as Guajolote—a bread called bolillo filled with enchiladas with beans. Other dishes are mole, cheeses, barbacoa, molotes, amaranth chilaquiles and tlacoyos stuffed with alverjón. Don’t forget to try the traditional bread.

 

Shopping is something that shouldn’t be missed. Handicrafts you can find here are mainly made of clay, saddlery and woolen.
