Tabasco is known for the beauty of its land, a clear example of this is Jalapa, a city that hides history, beauty and unsurpassed gastronomy.

 

The streets of this place will take you into a journey back in time with its colonial architecture; with facades of different colors as well as its historic center, imposing for any traveler who likes to immerse themselves in its history.

 

The flora and fauna of the region are exquisite, with rivers and lakes that are a delight for everyone’s eyes and its native species such as the howler monkey, spider monkey, squirrel, armadillo and rabbit, which are typical of this type of humid and rainy ecosystems.

 

Although the exact date of its foundation is unknown, it was appointed district head in the year 1733, in December 1883 it was part of the 17 municipalities of the entity and by 1976 Villa de Jalapa rose to the rank of city.

 

Ancestral gastronomy

 

Here you can taste exquisite Tabasco snacks in the market and visit the Museo del Dulce.

 

This admirable community of Jalapa can be considered as the sweet center of Tabasco thanks to the production of delicious fruit candies, made by hand and wrapped in “joloche” or dried corn leaves.

 

Within its rich gastronomy you can find typical food from Jalapa with the delicious varieties of tamales such as “chipilín” and ‘’ maneitas ’’ as well as dried meat and exquisite salty cheeses stand out. Its traditional drinks such as “pozol”(corn and cacao drink), “refresco de marañón”(a cashew drink), “polvillo”(corn flour and cacao drink) and “skimo”(similar to a smoothie) will quench your thirst.

You will also be able to know and enjoy the sweet route in the town of Jahuacapa, a small town on the outskirts of Jalapa where you will be invited to see the elaboration of these delicious handmade sweets. You can take a walk this peaceful place, visit the artisans who work with wood and admire how the typical Tabasco boat, the “cayuco”, is made and make a stop at “La Finca” to refresh yourself with a “pozol” while listening to some of the history of this place .

Jalapa is located 45 minutes from Villahermosa, taking Highway 195 to the junction to the Playas del Rosario-Teapa state highway
