The way to get here was so long that with the time it generated a great richness and today you can have many haciendas in the view.

 

This travel is full of legends and stories surrounded by a historic landscape that dates from the XVI century. You can come and visit the Plaza Independencia, the first plaza in the state that stands as the Monumento de Independencia that dates from 1868.

 

In front of the Plaza you will find the Juan Bautista, Parish, built in the year 1731. This is an example of architecture from XVIII century, with its large naves and a solid construction

 

You can also visit the Diocesan Sanctuary Nuestra Señora de Guadalupe, built in the year 1729. Its style is sober and in the interior you will find the image of the Virgen de Guadalupe. You can also visit other religious constructions such as the Temple Señor del Sacromonte, built in 1831 and the Temple Santo Domingo, built between the year 1690 to 1734. Another important example is the Temple Jesusito de la Portería y Antiguo Hospital de San Juan de Dios, built in 1622.

 

Under the shade of the tress you will find the Plaza de los Fundadores, where you can enjoy the variety of traditional music next to its kiosk.

 

The emblematic building is Portal del Diezmo located in the old Camino Real de Tierra Adentro, at present it works as a Cultural Center. If you give a little walk you will find the old prison.

 

Another must-see that you have to visit the History Bridge, one of the most important symbols in the city . It was built in 1710 as a way for walking across the San Juan river.
But the city is something more than temples and historical enclosures. You can also find a great diversity of food, an example of the Mexican mestizaje like the barbacoa, nopales and its famous enchiladas from Querétaro.
Don’t forget to buy crafts from the region, like goldsmithing and silversmithing work.
