Get to know Linares

Find your favorite destination and explore its charms

Nestled in the citrus region of the state of Nuevo León is Linares, a Pueblo Mágico (Magical Town) that goes beyond its history, where the aroma of dulce de leche invades the city, while its architecture reflects the colonization of the region.

The beauty of the Historic Center of Linares has to be admired by walking through its cobblestone streets, taking advantage of its warm climate and the hospitality of its people, since it is possible to spend the afternoons in an atmosphere of tranquility.

Its most emblematic buildings are located in front of the Plaza de Armas, such is the case of the Palacio Municipal (Municipal Palace) of neoclassic style; the Cathedral of San Felipe Apóstol, construction of 1715 with its quarry facade of baroque style and neoclassic ornamental details; or the Capilla del Señor de la Misericordia (Chapel of the Lord of Mercy), a robust quarry chapel with a tower that was built in the 18th century.

Other beautiful buildings from the 18th century are the Museo de Linares (Linares Museum), which houses a permanent exhibit of 200 pieces of the history of the city and the region. Also, the Casino de Linares, a majestic construction of French neoclassical lines, its design was inspired by the building of the Paris Opera.

The tour around the downtown must be accompanied by some delicious “ glorias “, a burnt milk candy, created in 1930 by Mrs. Natalia Medina Núñez.

To the rhythm of some northern syrups with music of drummers, enjoy the rich gastronomy as the dry meat, machacado, fritada de cabrito al pastor, meat cuts, tacos agachados, tortas compuestas, glorias, marquetas and natillas.

From Monterrey, the trip by land to Linares is 1 hour 42 minutes. If you leave from Ciudad Victoria, Tamaulipas, it will take you two hours by road.
