Get to know Tepic

To the west of the Mexican territory is Tepic, the capital of Nayarit. It is the largest and most populated city in this state, making it the center of attention for Nayarit tourism. It also has all the necessary infrastructure to receive its visitors between hotels and flights that take you directly.

The beauty is mixed with the hills of the Sierra Madre Occidental between crops of cane, corn, chili, mango, banana, or coffee that frame the beautiful colonial architecture that surrounds it inviting you to take long walks between the old large houses of the haciendas that are still standing, its squares with historical airs or its monuments that reveal why Tepic became the capital of the kingdom of New Galicia.

Despite being a small city, Tepic offers that air of tranquility like few others on the map thanks to its pleasant climate and streets where you can live the traditions that come from a rich legacy, a heritage of indigenous peoples such as the Coras and Huicholes.

One of the best routes you can take to know the secrets told by its walls, faithful witnesses of the passing of time since 1531 (year of its foundation), is through its historical center.

La Catedral de la Purísima Concepción (The Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception), a religious church with a splendid facade, has become one of the most emblematic sites in Tepic, as well as the government palace, a neoclassical building located in the old penitentiary. Also visit its Plaza de Armas, where you will find the oldest buildings from the 16th century.

One of the best months to admire Tepic in all its splendor is in March when the Feria Nacional de Tepic (National Tepic Fair) takes place, a popular festival with diverse cultural events and harvest of Huichol crafts such as “ Los Ojos de Dios” (the eyes of God), wooden crosses wrapped by wool threads that end up forming very colorful rhombuses.

The closest beach to Tepic is San Blas, only 49 minutes away by car, and Rincón de Guayabitos, a little more than two hours away by highway.
