Las Tarascas Fountain and Callejón del Romance (Romance Alley)

On the route of the Morelia aqueduct, specifically on Francisco I. Madero street, you will encounter some beautiful women accompanying tourists. These aren't flesh-and-blood women, but rather bronze sculptures that make up the famous "Las Tarascas" Fountain. The fountain was created in 1984 by the sculptor José Luis Padilla Retana and is believed to represent the three Purépecha princesses Atzimba, Eréndira, and Tzetzangari, who carry a basin full of fruits with their torsos uncovered.

It's said that if you write your name and that of your loved one on a red ribbon, tie it around a padlock, and hang it on one of the doors, windows, or lampposts within the alley, your love will be eternal. It's a highly visited spot by couples and is perfect for taking a photograph or simply enjoying the romantic atmosphere. Undoubtedly, the "Las Tarascas" Fountain and the Romance Alley are two emblematic places you shouldn't miss during your visit to Morelia.

Just a few steps from the fountain lies the most romantic corner of the entire Historic Center of Morelia, the Romance Alley. This idyllic setting leaves all visitors amazed with its fountains and lampposts, giving it a picturesque touch. The Romance Alley gets its name from the verses of the poem "Romance of my city" by Don Lucas Ortiz, which are found along its walls.
