Jalostotitlán, located in the heart of the Altos de Jalisco region, is a quaint and picturesque town in the southern part of the state. Known as one of the liveliest villages in the region due to the kindness and hospitality of its residents, it's perfect for exploring on foot and discovering its rich cultural, architectural, and artistic heritage.

Locally referred to as "Jalos," this town is renowned for its tranquil and peaceful atmosphere, where time seems to stand still amidst its temples and monuments, all set against a backdrop of warm weather ideal for strolling through its streets.

The historic center revolves around its squares, beginning with the Plaza de Armas featuring the Portal de la Unión, a colonial-style structure from 1829 housing shops and restaurants. Continue your journey to Plaza Alfredo R. Placencia, home to the central statue of Juan Pablo II surrounded by two fountains.

An architectural highlight is the Templo del Sagrado Corazón, a unique eclectic gem from the 19th century, distinguished by its twin-towered columns and frontispiece. The Parroquia de Nuestra Señora de la Asunción, built in Baroque style between the 17th and 18th centuries, showcases exquisite marquetry stonework and an eclectic quarry altarpiece.

The town is also a haven of art, evident in murals painted by masters like Rosalío González and Leonardo de la Mancha at the Parroquia de Nuestra Señora de la Asunción. The Municipal Palace displays Alfredo Soto's mural on its ceiling and staircase, depicting scenes of agriculture, pilgrimages, and the town's origins.

Pause to savor the delicious local cuisine, including carnitas, tostadas de pata, birria, red pozole, dulces de leche, pumpkin preserves, and freshly baked bread.

The town’s craftsmanship is exemplified by its intricate wood inlay work, huaraches, and lace embroidery, all of which are handmade pieces.

Jalostotitlán’s proximity allows easy visits to nearby destinations such as San Juan de los Lagos, Pénjamo, Encarnación de Díaz, and Guadalajara.
